Description
Eastern bluebirds nearly vanished from a lot of their range in the mid-1900s, pushed out of nesting cavities by house sparrows and starlings that people had introduced from Europe. Their comeback is largely thanks to ordinary people putting up nest boxes along "bluebird trails," one of the better conservation stories out there. I drew this one in pastel pencil, trying to get that soft rust-orange breast against the blue just right.
