Blue jays, eastern bluebirds, and northern flickers all pass through the yard at different points in the year, and each one earned its own portrait in pastel pencil. The blue jay is the loudmouth of the three — it will mimic a red-tailed hawk's call just to clear other birds off a feeder. The bluebird nests in old woodpecker cavities rather than building its own, and the flicker is one of the few woodpeckers that spends more time on the ground hunting ants than up in the bark.

This set brings all three together in one frame, each on its own archival pigment print, matted with room to breathe.
